Here is a sample itinerary–note that there are many options including before and after experiences in Mexico City. Also it is important to know that there are several areas to observe the monarch reserves and we can adjust to fit with your fitness level and preference for lodging.
This itinerary shows us staying in Mexico City, but we often head straight to the monarch roosting areas from the airport inn Mexico City (MEX).
Trips we have done the last couple of years often include several days in Mexico City, Puebla, and/or Oaxaca.
The reserves usually open sometime in November and there are monarchs to see until the first or second week of March. Note that they are much more active and the weather is warmer in late February and early March.
