Thanks for your support of the people of Copper Canyon!

Here is the explanation of the project:

In a few weeks I will be running my first ultra marathon.  Working in Copper Canyon and with the Tarahumaras has inspired me as a runner. It has also envisioned my wife and I to start a not for profit, Friends of Copper Canyon (FoCC).The mission of FoCC is that we exist for the purposes of direct and sustainable aid and entrepreneurial education and training to the people living in rural areas in Copper Canyon, Mexico.

Debbie and I have decided to use this run as an opportunity to raise funds for FoCC. In particular. we will apply the contributions you make to fund the Copper Canyon Chicken project. This initiative supplies live young chickens to families in remote areas of the Sierra Madre.

Here are some details:

  • The race is the Run Rabbit Run 50 miler at Steamboat Springs, CO on September 13 and I will be one of the few runners carrying a Medicare card. It is a grueling course traversing the continental divide and climbing Rabbit Ears Peak. I am training hard.
  • Every $50 contributed ($1 per mile) buys 12 chickens and starter food for two families. You can, of course, contribute any amount.
  • The chickens will be delivered to families that qualify (they have a coyote proof hen house, will care for them and share the extra eggs, etc) in spring of 2015 when the weather warms.
  • There will be an option for you to travel in 2015 to help distribute chickens to communities—and see Copper Canyon on the train in the same journey!

Here is how to contribute:

Send your check to Friends of Copper Canyon, 514 South Edwin, Champaign Illinois, 61821 or to use PayPal above.

Debbie is coordinating this chicken project and you can contact her with questions. 217.552.0700 or dkhensleigh@gmail.com.

Thank you so much for considering this opportunity to make a difference in Copper Canyon.

Best,

Dave Hensleigh
